maya emanuelle was born & raised in new york city & has resided in the midwest for over a decade.

Her work is inspired by a cinematic childhood in new york, stories of ancestors in Mississippi, Louisiana and the Carolinas, magical realism, botany, altered perceptions, and indigenous rituals.

By illustrating, painting, and sculpting with a ‘stream of consciousness’ approach, she explores the process of grounding within the abstract and chaotic nature of the body.
